What is‘Organic’ Dry Cleaning?

🌿 What Does "Organic" Dry Cleaning Actually Mean? (And Why Westbury Loves It!)

You buy organic food for your health, but what about the clothes that touch your skin all day? At Joe’s Organic Dry Cleaners in Westbury, we are often asked: "What makes it organic?"

The Science of Safe Cleaning Traditional dry cleaning uses PERC (Perchloroethylene), a harsh, petroleum-based solvent classified as a likely carcinogen. It’s what gives dry cleaning that distinct "chemical" smell. "Organic" in our industry refers to the chemistry of the solvents we use, such as SYSTEMK4. These are:

  1. Non-Toxic & Biodegradable: Safe for the soil, water, and air.

  2. Gentle on Fabrics: Unlike harsh solvents that strip natural oils from wool and silk, our organic process conditions the fibers, leaving your suits and dresses softer and brighter.

  3. Odor-Free: No chemical off-gassing. Just fresh, clean clothes.

Total Wardrobe Care We combine this eco-technology with our Wet Dry Clean process (using water and high-tech conditioners) for specific stains. Plus, before we clean, our ON-SITE Master Tailor can inspect your garments for any needed Tailoring or Alterations.

Experience the Difference Don't let toxic chemicals linger in your closet. Switch to the safer choice. We make it easy with Free Pickup and Delivery in the Westbury area.

What is‘Organic’ Dry Cleaning?

The storefronts of many drycleaners boast of an "organic" cleaning technique that is non-toxic and environmentally benign.
Clearly they are trying to capitalize on the consumers' pursuit of all things wholesome. While they may use the environmentally
safe alternative solvent, some should not be able to maintain their cleaning as ‘organic.’
The term ‘organic’ describes in general  especially recently  food or product, pretty much all things wholesome and
non-toxic. Semantically, ‘organic’ refers to anything that is living, which could mean literally anything.
But, today's ‘organic’ products are called so in substantially different meaning than just being simply organic
in a traditional sense. Specifically, ‘organic’ is used to refer to a thing made from completely natural non-toxic
materials and process without any artificial stuff harmful to human body and environment, additives, supplements and processes.

Your decision now has a lasting impact for the next 10 years.
The excellent choice in laundry can keep you healthy and preserve your garments in a soft condition for a long time.
The use of the hydrocarbon machine keeps the texture of garments softer and prolongs its life and fit.
Also, it could free you from the toxic and smelly PERC which is used by 95% of all dry cleaners. In general,
the chemical is unknown to the customers, but PERC is heavier than water and quite toxic,
usually causing allergy and discomfort due to its stench.
However, the hydrocarbon machine in our store uses a high quality solvent approved by the state government and
manufactured specially for dry cleaning.
Santa Clara County Regional EPA in California reports the test result for the solvent as following

Happy New Year, Westbury! Start 2026 Fresh with Clean Clothes

There’s something about January in Westbury that feels like a deep breath. The decorations come down. The calendar flips. The coffee tastes a little more hopeful. And suddenly, we all feel that quiet urge to reset. Not the dramatic, “new year, new everything” kind of reset — but the practical one. The kind that starts with clean closets, fresh clothes, and fewer “I’ll deal with that later” piles. That’s where starting 2026 fresh with clean clothes really shines. 👕 A New Year Reset (Without the Pressure) You don’t need a brand-new wardrobe to feel refreshed. Sometimes, all it takes is: coats that smell clean again sweaters without last winter’s stains workwear pressed and ready dresses cleaned and properly stored shirts crisp enough to make Mondays easier Clean clothes have a funny way of clearing mental clutter too. One customer told us just before New Year’s: “Once my clothes are done, I feel like the year can actually start.” We get that. ...
